And the "Wiener" for Best Hot Dog is...

Tex Barry's Coney Island Hot Dogs looks like a down-and-out place, located in a worn red building with a decrepit looking roof and big hot dog sign by a dirty river in not exactly the most pretty part of Attleboro, MA. The inside looks like a dive with worn floors, attitudinal signs posted on the walls, a long counter, and card table-like chairs to the side in an old narrow diner car that's as small as they come. As Foghorn Leghorn once said (not about Tex Barry's), "It's so small you have to go outside to change your mind."

On the grill, there seemed to be an Army load of hot dogs, yet there were only a few people in the place. So, it seems, Tex Barry's make the hot dogs ahead of time, but that doesn't take away from its amazing signature dish.

I had a phenomenal chili dog with relish, onions and mustard for under $3.00. You can also order plain hot dogs, hamburgers and cheeseburgers, fries and chips, as well as brownies for dessert. This is "cheap eats" at it best where it's best never to judge a book by its cover. Tex Barry's certainly won't win any restaurant beauty contests. The beauty lies in the art and science of producing great hot dogs.
