A Magical Travel Moment in New England

Image
Sometimes the end of the day can feel like just the beginning. After a long, fun day in the York Beach, Maine, summer sun, the crowds lessen, the sky and ocean take on dramatic colors, the imposing rocky coast appears to relax a little, and the thick, humid air starts to refreshingly thin out. Add a touch of Mother Nature's Maine Division patent on salt sea air and a soft summer breeze, and you'll never want to leave. It's truly a magical travel moment in New England! Having to leave soon after experiencing New England travel nirvana is particularly frustrating when on a day trip. Enjoying the moment, however, and reveling in this one-of-a-kind feeling that the Maine coast provides is always the road map to embark on for the memories will last forever. New England Travel Resolution for 2014

Image
My sister-in-law Maggie Kerrigan recently wrote a fantastic book entitled The (almost) Blank Journal to inspire clarity and creativity for daily writing. Meant for both the creative mind and highly structured thinker, Maggie's book features "prompts (motivational words and thoughts) for writing and drawing..." It's really a simple but brilliant concept. Plus, Maggie knows what she is talking about, given her quest for creativity as a significantly talented artist. I own several web sites and blogs, but this one, the Weekly New England Travel and Vacation Gazett e, has hit a creative road block several times in its existence without clear direction -- that is, until I opened Maggie's Christmas gift in the mail. As often as possible, I am going to try my hand at daily writing on this blog -- motivated and guided by Maggie's journal. Today, I focus on Resolutions with the topic being New England Travel in 2014.  Since we are on a tight family budget, cheap ...

Macro Monday in New England: Vermont Country Store, Weston, Vt.

Image
The Vermont Country Store in Wetston, Vt., is one of New England's most famous country stores. I took this close-up photo in an attempt to capture the welcoming, old-time feel to the storefront. Notice the front porch benches, the rocking chairs, the old wooden door, the windows with mullions, the American flag at the top left and the family business sign -- this is so New England!  It gets even better inside with more than 5,000 hard-to-find items, some that you thought you would never see again, like Chiclets, Uncle Wiggily board game, the original Gumby and Pokey bendable buddies, Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific Shampoo etc., For more on the Vermont Country Store and other country stores to love during your New England travel. please read our Best Country Stores in New England article.

Luxury Hotels in New England on Pinterest

New England has its share of upscale lodging, so we thought it would be a great idea to create a Pinterest Luxury New England Hotels  photo pin board of many of these luxury hotels.  We have included such famous landmarks, including the Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, N.H., Ritz Carlton in Boston, Mass., Wentworth by the Sea in New Castle, N.H. (pictured above), Topnotch in Stowe, Vt., and The Colony in Kennebunkport, Maine. You'll also find some luxury hotels that don't have the "big name," while still offering wonderful settings for those looking to splurge just a little. Each hotel photo leads to a page where you can make reservations. Not only do we see the beauty of these hotels through photos, but also the beauty of social media by categorizing this genre of hotels into one place with frequent updates. No need anymore to wait for those antiquated yearly travel guides and sifting through the book to find luxury hotels!
