Your Impressions of Falmouth, Mass.?
Downtown Falmouth (photo by Eric ) |
Falmouth, Mass., epitomizes the dual personality of Cape Cod, combining the quaint beach side "outskirts of town" neighborhoods with the highly developed commercial downtown.
It's really the best of both worlds. You can have the quintessential Cape Cod beach vacation of a destination like, say, Old Silver Beach in North Falmouth while having so many locally-owned and operated retail, dining and lodging options in the town's center.
We'd like to know what you like most about Falmouth -- and what aspects you could do without. We're particularly interested in your feedback on beaches, attractions, restaurants, inns and places to walk. Please feel free to comment below!

Definitely take a trip to Woods Hole but take the more scenic ocean drive and stop at Nobska Light on the way. It's one of the Cape's many lighthouses and my personal favorite.
In the summer, CLOC (College Light Opera Company) puts on many musicals and in the winter, the Falmouth Theater Guild puts on great shows at Highfield Hall. If you're in town and one is playing, definitely get tickets! They are great!
The Shining Sea Bike Path is wonderful and is another great way to get out and see Falmouth while getting in some exercise. The original path was 7 miles from Falmouth to Woods Hole but has recently been expanded to include North and West Falmouth. If you do the portion that goes from Falmouth to Woods Hole, be sure to spend some time in Woods Hole checking out Pie in the Sky, the Fishmonger, and Captain Kidds for lunch or a drink.
In town, Main Street is a great location for walking and enjoying Small Town New England. There are some great shops and some great restaurants. Liam McGuire's Irish Pub is great for some live music.
As for hotels/inns/resorts - InnSeason Resorts has three resorts, each located on the water. The rooms are nice and comfortable and two of them are just steps from the beach and offer beautiful views of Vineyard Sound.
Definitely visit Falmouth! There's so much to see and do. I've really only touched on a few things!
There's so much to see and do in this quaint town that I'm just going to pick out some of my favorites!
InnSeason Resorts has some of the best hotel locations. Two of the resorts are located on Vineyard Sound and there is a third located on Falmouth Harbor. They are great spots to stay and offer suites that have a little more room than hotel rooms. Renting in the summer can be tough but if you plan it out, you can have the perfect vacation spot! (I do work for them but the rooms are really beautiful.)
For restaurants - Check out the British Beer Company in the Heights; The Casino Wharf also in the Heights; Liam Maguire's on Main Street; The Fishmonger in Woods Hole; Pie in the Sky (lunch and delicious treats) in Woods Hole; and the Falmouth Raw Bar on Falmouth Harbor. Almost all restaurants in Falmouth will have a decent seafood selection because let's face it, that's what you're looking to eat when you come to Cape Cod.
Any beach in Falmouth is good in all honesty. Falmouth Heights beach is probably the second most popular next to Old Silver Beach in North Falmouth. Both feature warm water and nice sandy shores. Both also allow public parking without the need of a town beach sticker.
As for activities - Shining Sea Bike Path is great. It starts in North Falmouth and goes all the way to Woods Hole. Woods Hole in itself is a great day trip! There are a couple of museums and the aquarium there all run by WHOI. Highfield Hall hosts many great theater productions so if you're in town, be sure to check one of them out!
This is a fantastic post -- thank-you. Makes us want to go back and discover more of this Cape Cod town.
